In this presentation, Professor Sculean (Bern) demonstrates coverage of recession defects using the modified tunnel technique. In this case, coverage is to be performed of multiple Miller class I recession defects in the second quadrant. Following an intrasulcular incision, tunnelling is performed in the vestibular area of the gingiva together with elevation of the papillae. Once tunnelling has been completed, the tooth surface is cleaned and conditioned, and enamel matrix proteins then applied. To thicken the tissue, a subepithelial connective tissue graft is taken from the palate and inserted into the tunnel.
