In this scientific lecture Dr. Mehl (Munich) discusses the differences of the internal abutment connections versus the external connection. The respective influence of the connection design on clinical life and the complications will be evaluated scientifically. A further look is taken into the geometry, the microgap and biomechanics of the implant-abutment interface and the clinical influence.
Additionally, an interesting laboratory study of Harder et al. researches the bacterial and endotoxine load due to molecular leakage in and out of the intra-implant cavity. An extensive view is taken into the influence of the platform switch using several publications and reviews.
