In this operation Prof. Wachtel (Munich) performs a placement of a free gingival graft around two implants in the lower jaw front. Hereby an incision is performed right on the line between the attached and the mobile gingiva. And a split-flap is prepared. After suturing the labial aspect of the split flap to the underlying tissue the periosteum is cleaned from any connective tissue.
After measuring the size of the area to be covered using the paper of a suture package the free gingival graft is taken from the palate. The graft has to have a thickness of around 1-1.5 mm and shouldn’t contain too much fat or connective tissue. When the graft is placed into position it is fixed using micro-sutures (6.0 – 7.0 sutures) in the double sling technique. The graft is further stabilised using pressurizing Gore-Tex sutures.
