Composite fillings are indicated to cover defects in the tooth neck area. Several causes for tooth neck defects are discussed such as wrong brushing techniques, frequent exposure to acidic foods or drinks and bruxism. In this treatment session, Dr. Tobias Thalmair adds two composite fillings to the buccal tooth neck area of tooth 45 and 46.
To begin with, retraction cords are inserted in the sulcus in order to establish an operative field that is protected from sulcus fluid and blood. Following etching of the cavities and application of primer and bonding material, Dr. Thalmair applies layers of Enamel HFO. Each of these layers must be cured for 30 seconds in order to minimize polymerization shrinkage of the composite material.
Dr. Thalmair removes excess material with a flame-shaped diamond burr (red ring). He then uses a rubber polisher and an occlusal brush to polish the composite fillings.
