In three lectures Dr. Christian Mehl, Munich/Germany, gives an update on three highlight topics of prosthodontics: Prosthodontics on Implants, Screw vs. Cement and Digital Scanning. Prosthodontics on Implants: Implant prosthetics are an important element in prosthetic restoration treatments today. In addition to the appropriate indication for the clinical situation at hand, knowledge of the biomechanical processes with regard to implants and their corresponding prosthetic components is becoming increasingly important. Dr. Mehl familiarises you with the biomechanical aspects of the implant-abutment connection, as well as the impact of the increased use of cemented restorations on the implant-bone interface. Screw vs. Cement: In the recent years the fixation of implant supported restorations has shifted from screwing to cementing. Dr. Mehl presents in his lecture a scientific rationale to screwing implant restorations instead of cementing them. Digital Scanning: In recent years the development of digital tools like CAD/CAM techniques and impression taking promised a revolution in clinical practice. Dr. Mehl examines whether these promises can be delivered or if conventional techniques are still superior.
