Implantology - Esthetic Zone - Lecture

Harvesting of an Autologous Bone Graft and Insertion in the Esthetic Zone in One Session

Duration:

04:09

Instructor:

Prof. Dr. Dr. Schmelzeisen

Prof. Rainer Schmelzeisen, University of Freiburg, covers a bone defect in the anterior maxilla with an autologous bone block transplant, which is obtained from the patient’s mandible within the same session. Prof. Schmelzeisen first harvests an autologous bone block and additional bone material from the mandible using the piezotome and chisel. Once the donor site is covered with a collagen fleece, the wound is securely closed. For the exposure of the bone defect in the maxilla, a mucoperiosteal flap is elevated. The harvested bone graft is prepared according to the required size. The underlying bone at the recipient site is contoured and also perforated with a fine drill to improve blood circulation. Screw holes in the bone graft are extra-orally defined and pre-drilled. Then the bone block is placed, and screw holes are prepared at the maxillary alveolar bone before the screws are fixated. Sharp edges are smoothened, and gaps and unevenness between bone graft and alveolar ridge are filled and compensated with a mixture of bone chips and bone substitute material. The augmented region is covered with a collagen membrane. Finally, the mucoperiosteal flap is secured for a tension-free wound closure.more »

Implant Uncovering Using A Roll-Flap Procedure In The Aesthetic Zone

    Duration:

    06:50

    Surgeon:

    Prof. Dr. Hürzeler

Prof. Hürzeler uncovers an implant in the aesthetic zone applying a special roll-flap procedure. A full thickness flap is elevated at the implant site, which is rolled in in order to thicken the buccal tissue. Using this roll flap technique, the thickening of the buccal tissue and the coronal positioning of the gingiva can be reached at the same time.  The goal is to prevent later gingival recession as well as the unaesthetic appearance of an implant shining through a thin gingiva.more »

Osteotome Sinus Floor Elevation Technique and Immediate Implantation

      Duration:

      12:15 / 06:20

      Surgeon:

      Prof. Dr. Wachtel

In this operation an implant is placed in the region of the missing upper right molar. In order to obtain the bone thickness needed for the implant an orthograde sinus floor elevation is performed using the osteotome technique in connection with a bone substitute.more »

        Instructor:

        Dr. Hinze

In the premolar region of the right maxilla, Dr. Marc Hinze, Gräfelfing/Germany, conducts  bone augmentation and implant insertion in one session. Applying the GBR technique, two membranes - a bone-lamina membrane and an Evolution membrane (collagen membrane) - are placed to create and maintain space for bone in-growth. A bone substitute material is used for the augmentation.more »

Bone Augmentation with the Double-Layer Technique

          Duration:

          13:52

          Surgeon:

          Prof. Dr. Wachtel

Augmentation enables an optimized bone and tissue volume for implantation procedures improving clinical long-term prognosis and achieving contemporary patient esthetic expectations. In this horizontal augmentation with Professor Dr. Hannes Wachtel, Munich/Germany, guided bone regeneration (GBR) and guided tissue regeneration (GTR) is combined in a double-layer technique.more »
